The intent in this series was to bring chaos and order together as a unity. Often perceived as a contrasting juxtaposition, the coherence of both together is often overlooked. I wanted to show them existing side by side, equally wondrous, as one often finds within a Japanese rock garden.
To further the idea that they aren’t an either or concept, I looked for them together in my day to day life, seeking them in the overlooked mundane aspects of life. This was captured for me in rural Ontario within the common snow fence, found erected long many two lane blowy winter roads.
The imagery is stripped down to the essentials, revealing the contrast of snow, fence and shadow. The repetitive order of the snow fence embraces the chaotic realignments caused by reuse of the fences over the winter seasons. Like some kind of melodic musical score, the chaotic elements of the fence strike counterpoint and give silent pause to the regular rhythm of the snow fence slats.
Order and chaos within our daily lives, revealing itself as a singular sign of winter wonder.
